South Luzon Thermal Energy (SLTE) has signed a 13-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Trans-Asia to sell the power generated at its 135 MW power plant in Calaca, Batangas. This will be SLTE’s second power plant; construction will begin in the latter half of 2013 and commercial operations will commence in 2016. SLTE has another 135 MW plant that is still under construction; commercial operations are expected to start by mid-2014. The PPA for the second plant will become effective once the unit is operating commercially. Trans-Asia will use the purchased power to support its electricity supply business, which will expand its network of customers. SLTE is a JV company of Ayala Corporation’s power unit, AC Energy Holdings, Inc., and the Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corporation.
