Airports of Thailand (AOT) is preparing to digitalise six of its airports to prepare for a potential tourist inflow. AOT has so far developed the Greenfield system, which allows passengers to utilise smartphone or other automated devices to access numerous services such as check-in and baggage loading. By 2022, all six airports will be equipped with the new technology. The new system is expected to be installed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok by July 2021, and at Phuket International Airport by April or May 2022.

Passengers without luggage can check in at a kiosk at the airport or at home using the AOT smartphone app. Check-in counters will include a biometric technology to authenticate passengers’ IDs, and they can load their luggage using the self-service baggage loader. Instead of inspecting passengers’ ID cards, airports will utilise a facial recognition to screen them.
