The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) was presented the Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement award at the 2015 Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards. It was also a joint winner in the public sector category, alongwith Nanyang Technological University.
MPA launched the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative in 2011 at an investment of S$100 million. The initiative includes its Green Ship Programme, which gives owners of Singapore-flagged ships incentives to adopt energy-efficient ship designs that reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Winners in other categories included Ardentec Singapore, Marina Bay Sands and Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line. The green awards were launched in 1997 to inspire local commitment to corporate best practices in the environment.
