The first section of the Downtown automated metro line, which spans 4.3 km from Chinatown to Bugis, has become operational. The section that covers six stations is being served by trains running at four-minute headways during peak hours and five-minute intervals during non-peak hours. Canada-based Bombardier Transportation has delivered the initial 11 Movia driverless trains under a contract to supply 343 cars. The 42 km long Downtown Line (DTL) is scheduled to open in three phases by 2017; it will be operated by SBS Transit Limited under a contract with the Land Transport Authority.
