The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has completed the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC) in Tuas, a 50-hectare facility designed for comprehensive train and railway system testing. The centre, built in two phases since 2021, enables rigorous testing for both new and existing rail lines.
The first phase, completed in November 2023, introduced a 2.8 km high-speed test track, allowing trains to reach speeds of up to 100 km/hr. The second phase added a 2.8 km performance and integration test track and a 3 km endurance loop for mileage accumulation testing. SRTC also features an operations centre, maintenance workshops, and integration capabilities for different MRT signalling and power systems.
By localising train testing, SRTC reduces reliance on overseas facilities and frees up engineering hours on operational lines. It will also serve as a research hub for rail innovation and workforce development. Awarded BCA’s Green Mark Platinum Certification, the facility incorporates sustainability features, including solar panels and energy-efficient cooling.
