The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has announced plans for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e), set to connect the existing Bukit Panjang terminus to a new interchange station (NS6/DE2) on the North-South Line. The project, which will span 4 km, is expected to start construction in late 2025 and be completed by 2035. The extension will reduce travel time by up to 30 minutes, benefiting commuters in the north-western region, particularly those travelling to Yew Tee Village and the Sungei Kadut Eco-District.

The new stations will increase the Downtown Line’s total to 39, contributing to Singapore’s Land Transport Master Plan 2040, which aims to have 80 per cent of households within a 10-minute walk to a train station by the 2030s. Environmental safeguards, including a wildlife corridor, will be implemented during construction to mitigate ecological impact. Public feedback will be sought once the environmental reports are published.
