The Singapore Land Transport Authority, in partnership with public transport operators SBS Transit and SMRT Buses, will add 450 buses during the 2015–17 period, as part of the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). With these buses, the total public bus fleet in Singapore will increase by 35 per cent to reach about 5,400 buses. A fleet of 550 buses has already been added under the programme: about 320 buses are operational, while the remainder will enter into service by end-2014 (two years ahead of schedule). The BSEP was initiated in September 2012 at an investment of SGD 1.1 billion to expand public bus capacity in Singapore by 2017.
