The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has imposed a S$1.38 million penalty on SMRT and SBS Transit for train delays and safety issues during 2013. SMRT that will pay S$1,075,860 experienced a trackside fire at the Newton station in February 2013. In addition, it did not launch the correct set of trains on the Bukit Panjang LRT network in July 2013 nor repaired a corroded rail on the Circle Line on schedule. Finally, it failed to satisfy safety parameters at the Ulu Pandan depot during the last two months of 2012. SBS Transit was fined S$312,750 for the delay in evacuating 250 passengers who were stuck in a stalled train on the North–East Line in June 2013.
