The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has identified 60 sites where roads could be converted into footpaths, cycling paths or bus lanes. It will work closely with the local communities for these 60 projects and has already started engaging with the community for five projects.
The LTA will start paving over roadside parking spots along Havelock Road this month to widen the footpath. Beyond this, the LTA will also look to improve walkability in the Civic District.
LTA will also focus on developing cycling paths and is expected to spend SGD36.3 million on such projects in 2021. By the end of 2021, LTA will add 28 km of cycling paths. Overall, it aims to triple the cycling path network from 460 km to 1,300 km by 2030.
