The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will build new cycling paths across seven towns in Singapore as a part of its Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) program. In line with this, the agency is inviting bids for the construction of the new paths in Geylang, Hougang, Kaki Bukit, Marine Parade, Potong Pasir, Sengkang and Serangoon. Existing footpaths will also be extended to cater to the increase in active mobility in these towns. The cycling paths will be connected to main transport hubs, city centres and schools.
LTA’s ICN program was launched in 2020 to improve active mobility infrastructure across Singapore. The agency plans to expand the cycling path network to around 1,300km by 2030. LTA is also developing supporting infrastructure including bicycle parking facilities, bicycle crossings, wheeling ramps and map boards. By 2025, 3,000 bicycle parking lots will be added at Singapore’s MRT stations.
