The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded two civil contracts worth SGD766 million for the design and construction works on the Cross Island Line Phase 1 (CRL1). The first contract worth SGD320 million was secured by Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure Private Limited for the design and construction of Aviation Park station and tunnels. Work on the Aviation Park station is expected to commence during the first quarter of 2022, with the station opening to passenger traffic in 2030.

The second civil contract work SGD446 million was secured by Japan-based Nishimatsu Construction Company Limited for the design and construction of the bored tunnel between Tampines North and Defu stations. The tunnel will be built at a depth of 35 metres below ground level, with a maximum depth of nearly 50 metres. In addition, the company will construct a facility building with subterranean basements to meet CRL1’s electrical and mechanical requirements. Construction works are scheduled to start in December 2021.

The CRL is set to be the eighth mass rapid transit (MRT) line in Singapore. The line will be constructed in three phases with CRL1 being the first phase. The CRL1 will be 29 km long with 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. Work on the CRL1 is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
