Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded six contracts for the supply of 660 electric buses as part of its ongoing public bus fleet electrification programme. The contracts have been awarded to ST Engineering Mobility Services, BYD, Yutong, and Cycle & Carriage Automotive in partnership with Zhongtong Bus. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from end-2026, with buses to be progressively deployed into passenger service to replace ageing diesel vehicles.
The procurement comprises 360 single-deck and 300 double-deck electric buses, marking LTA’s first large-scale purchase of electric double-deck buses. ST Engineering Mobility Services will supply 100 single-deck and 150 double-deck buses; BYD will deliver 160 single-deck and 50 double-deck buses; Cycle & Carriage Automotive will supply 100 double-deck buses; and Yutong will provide 100 single-deck buses. Contract values range from SGD34.5 million to SGD79 million across suppliers.
The new buses will feature higher-capacity batteries, enhanced passenger information systems, and upgraded safety and driver-assistance technologies. The electric double-deck buses will be configured with three doors and two staircases to improve passenger flow. In parallel, LTA has called tenders to install electric bus charging infrastructure at Mandai Bus Depot and future integrated transport hubs at Kallang, Beauty World, and Tampines North.
The procurement supports Singapore’s broader strategy to transition its public bus fleet to cleaner energy, improve urban air quality, and reduce transport-related emissions. LTA continues to scale up electric bus deployment alongside depot upgrades and charging infrastructure development across the island.
