The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded two contracts for the delivery of 360 electric buses as well as supporting charging infrastructure. The first contract, valued at SGD108.1 million, was secured BYD (Singapore) Private Limited to supply 240 electric three-door single-deck buses. Meanwhile, Cycle & Carriage Automotive Private Limited secured the second contract, worth SGD58.3 million, under which it will supply 120 three-door single-deck buses. 

The new electric buses will replace the existing diesel fleet and will be progressively deployed for passenger services starting December 2024. 

The buses will be equipped with a passenger information display system to provide commuters with audio and visual information about their journey, an integrated closed-circuit television (CCTV)-collision warning system, a driver anti-fatigue system, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. 

An additional contract, worth SGD31.3 million, was awarded to Busways Private Limited/ Shell Singapore Private Limited Consortium to build electric vehicle (EV) charging systems in bus depots at Sengkang West and East Coast. Presico Engineering Private Limited was awarded a contract to develop the charging system at the Gali Batu bus depot at a contract value of SGD14.8 million. 

This is the first batch of large-scale tenders for bus electrification in Singapore. More tenders for electric buses and infrastructure upgrades to support their operation and maintenance will be called in the coming years.
