Singapore Land Transport Authority has awarded the SGD980-million contract for the construction of the Cross Island Line’s Pasir Ris interchange Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station to a joint venture (JV) of Daewoo Engineering and Construction and the Singapore branch of Dongah Geological Engineering. The construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021 with passenger service expected to commence by 2030.
The scope of works include the design and development of the Pasir Ris interchange station and tunnels as well as additions and modifications to the current Pasir Ris station on the East-West Line (EWL).
Once the line is operational, journey times wil reduce by 20 minutes between Pasir Ris and Defu Industrial Estate. The present one-hour travel time between Pasir Ris and Ang Mo Kio is also estimated to be reduced to 25 minutes.
