Singapore-based ST Engineering has signed an MoU with China-based BYD to form a consortium to develop and market autonomous buses. These buses will be used to conduct trials in Punggol, Tengah and the Jurong Innovation District. In a separate development, Volvo Buses, in collaboration with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), has developed the world’s first 12-metre long autonomous bus. The autonomous electric bus has capacity for 85 passengers and consumes 80 per cent less energy than a similar-sized diesel bus.
