The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The main subsidiaries of the Group including Singapore Airlines, Scoot and SIA Cargo will aim to invest in new-generation aircrafts, improve operating performance, implementing low-carbon technologies such as renewable aviation fuels and secure high-quality carbon offsets.

The SIA Group’s is gradually transitioning towards achieving fuel efficiency in its fleets by investing in the latest technology and new-generation models such as Boeing’s 777-9, 787 Family, Airbus’ A350-900 and A320neo Family and 737-8 Max. Compared to older models, these planes are up to 30 per cent more fuel efficient and emit 30 per cent less carbon emissions. The company has also invested in airframe and engine engineering upgrade packages that will help minimise drag and increase engine performance. SIA is attempting reduce fuel consumption by managing aircraft weight and optimising flight routes. Opportunities in technology and data analytics innovations are also being explored.

SIA and its subsidiaries are also focusing on carbon offsetting in addition to reducing direct emissions. The Group is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which aims to limit the volume of carbon emissions in the industry starting in 2020.
