Shell has opened an its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Jakarta, Indonesia. The single fast charging station has a 50kW range and is capable of completely charging a car within an hour. Shell is the third oil and gas company in Indonesia to open a commercial EV charging station after state-owned Pertamina opened its station in December 2018 and PT Medco Energi Internasional in February 2021.

As of 2020, Shell was operating 137 gas stations in Indonesia. Shell plans to introduce more fast charging stations across the Indonesia in the future to meet the country projected demand for up to 31,857 new charging stations by 2030 to serve 326,350 electric vehicles .
