Shanghai Electric has completed an equipment upgrade at the Ninh Binh power plant in Vietnam, which is expected to extend the facility’s operational life by 30 years. This power plant had been operational for 45 years before the upgrade.

The upgrade involved modernising the plant’s four steam turbines, increasing their output from 25 MW to 27 MW each. As a result, when operating at full capacity, the plant is now projected to produce approximately 800 million kWh of electricity annually.

Additionally, the project also highlights the Ninh Binh plant’s role in developing Vietnam’s power sector workforce, with many professionals trained there going on to contribute to other major power projects in the country, including the Vinh Tan and Quang Ninh power plants.
