SGI and its consortium partners are developing a proposed 6,870-km subsea cable system to strengthen domestic digital connectivity across Indonesia. The SGI Cable System will use a 16-fibre-pair architecture with an initial design capacity of approximately 25 Tbps and connect 14 cable landing stations across Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua.
The consortium comprises INET, SGI, Surge and Weave, with Nokia and FiberHome as technology partners. The system is designed to support telecommunications traffic, cloud services, data-centre connectivity and other digital applications, with Ready-for-Service targeted for late 2028. Wet-plant materials are scheduled for delivery in September 2027, followed by marine installation and commissioning.
