According to the National Water Services Commission, a total of 768 applications for development projects in Selangor, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur had to be deferred between January 2012 and January 2014, due to the shortage of water supply. Low water reserves at dams in the three regions have been cited as the main reason for slow project development. However, the commission now plans to consider partially completed projects that require fewer than 45.46 litres of water per day.
