Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries has terminated its gas sales agreement (GSA) for importing 111 billion Btu/d of piped natural gas from Indonesia’s Mako gas fields due to regulatory hurdles. The deal, signed in September 2023, involved partners West Natuna Exploration, Empyrean Energy, and Coro Energy Duyung but failed to receive necessary approvals.
Despite the cancellation, Sembcorp assured that its energy costs and gas supply in Singapore remain unaffected. The company continues to secure alternative sources, including LNG, with a 16-year agreement signed with TotalEnergies to supply up to 800,000 tonnes of LNG annually from 2027.
