The State Government of Penang has announced plans to issue a request for proposal (RfP) by the third quarter of 2022 for the implementation of the Bayan Lepas Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the pre-qualification process for the LRT project will commence in the second quarter of 2022. Interested companies will have to submit proposals on the technical aspects along with a funding model for the project.
The government has also applied for federal funding support to finance the rail project under the 12th Malaysian Plan.
The Bayan Lepas LRT system will be developed in two phases, which will collectively span 29.9 km and cover 27 stations. The rail project is a key part of the Penang Transport Master Plan.
