A 4 km stretch of the rail corridor between Hillview and Bukit Timah has been reopened. The stretch is a part of the 24-km-long Rail Corridor, a former railway line that spans from Woodlands in the north to Tanjong Pagar in the south.
The physical remnants of the corridor’s railway heritage, including four bridges, were retained and refurbished. The reopened corridor also features new elements such as new entry points and a pedestrian underpass. In urban areas, the trail is finished with an earth-coloured porous material that allows rainwater to seep into the ground thus eliminating the need for drains nearby.
The refurbishment works for the stretch commenced in 2019, after the public consultations on land use that began in 2011 after Malaysia returned the land to Singapore.
