Putrajaya Corporation will not proceed with the proposed Automated Rail Transit (ART) trackless tram system in Putrajaya after preliminary studies found the project to be financially unviable in Malaysia.

The estimated cost of implementing the ART system, including infrastructure development, systems, operations, and maintenance, would reach MYR211.95 million over a 10-year period, exceeding the financial capacity of Putrajaya Corporation. As a result, the local authority will not proceed with implementation and has no plans to expand the ART system in future phases.

The ART system had been trialled in Putrajaya between May and July 2024 as a pilot project to complement the existing public transport network. The trackless tram was designed to carry up to 307 passengers, with a maximum operating speed of 70 km/hr.

Putrajaya Corporation stated that it remains open to reviewing future public transport options, subject to funding availability and approval of allocations, particularly to support the long-term target of achieving a 70 per cent public transport modal share in the administrative capital.
