PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) has announced plans to develop Thailand’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at the Arthit offshore gas field. Feasibility studies for the project commenced in 2021 and has been recently concluded. Some of the areas covered under the study included preliminary assessment of storage capacity of the proposed site as well as a conceptual development plan.

A preliminary front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED) study is currently underway. The CCS project is expected to commence commercial operations in 2026.

PTTEP has also commenced CCS feasibility studies in other regions of Thailand along with industry partners to explore opportunities to further expand CCU potential in the country. These new developments are expected to be key in achieving the Government of Thailand’s aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
