PT Vale Indonesia (PT Vale) has won the 2025 Subroto Award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the community development and empowerment (PPM) category for its Matano Iniaku program.
The Matano Iniaku program focuses on improving living conditions in the village of Matano, East Luwu regency, South Sulawesi. Initiatives include installing a piped clean water system, rehabilitating a 200-hectare watershed, improving access with speedboat ambulances, and constructing base transceiver station (BTS) towers. These efforts have boosted local incomes by Rp 1–4 million (US$60–240) per month through agroforestry, eco-creative centers, and nature-based tourism, while also strengthening social cohesion and ecological awareness.
With a social investment exceeding Rp 5 billion, the program has achieved a social return on investment (SROI) of 1 to 1.08. PT Vale’s recognition at the Subroto Awards highlights its commitment to sustainable, low-carbon mining practices, community empowerment, and the advancement of Indonesia’s green economy and energy sovereignty, aligning with national priorities for downstream development and equitable energy transformation.
