The State Government of Melaka has proposed a new 120 km route linking Malaysia and Indonesia. The link will either be a tunnel or bridge connecting Telok Gong in Melaka with Dumai in Sumatra. The project will be developed in cooperation with the private sector.

Proposal on the project has been submitted and the Governments of the two countries have agreed to carry out a detailed feasibility study. The construction is expected to take about 20 years to complete and will be built based on the One Belt One Road concept.

Once completed, the link is expected to positively impact the economic development of both Malaysia and Indonesia.
