Prime Infrastructure Holdings Corporation (Prime Infra) has established WasteFuel Philippines, a new subsidiary, for its waste-to-fuel project that is being developed in partnership with US-based WasteFuel Global. The new subsidiary is currently assessing the feasibility of establishing a biorefinery in Luzon, with the plant expected to be operational by 2025.
On a yearly basis, the proposed biorefinery would be able to turn over one million tonnes of urban waste into 30 million gallons of low-carbon synthetic crude oil (syncrude). WasteFuel will produce waste-based fuels that will produce 80 per cent less carbon when burned as compared to fossil fuel-based aviation fuels.
NetJets, a private aviation firm, has committed to buying a minimum of 100 million gallons of Wastefuel’s sustainable aviation fuel over the next ten years.
