Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will invest around RM2.8 billion till 2027 to upgrade the Kelana Jaya light rail transit (LRT) line in Malaysia. Plans include the purchase of 27 new light rail vehicles as well as upgrading the existing automatic train control (ATC) system.

Acquisition of the new rolling stock will cost RM1.7 billion with the cars scheduled to be deployed on the LRT line between July and December 2024. Additionally, around RM800 million has been earmarked for the maintenance for the existing 35 train sets. Prasarana is also aiming to reduce headway from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.

Upgrading the ATC system will cost around RM360 million and will be carried out in two phases. The improved system is expected to reduce the occurrence of collisions and accidents.  Station infrastructure will also be improved and upgraded.

The modernisation programme is key in improving performance of the 24-year old urban transit line in Klang Valley.
