Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) will cease any further orders for diesel buses in Malaysia. The final batch of diesel buses will be delivered early in 2025, after the tender is awarded for the delivery in March 2024.

Currently, around 30 per cent of its bus fleet is electric. By 2037, all diesel buses will be retired. This move is in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) which aims to promote green mobility in the country.

Prasarana is also applying for an Energy Audit with Conditional Grant (EACG) to assess and guide the implementation of zero-, low- and medium-cost energy efficiency measures. This will lead to a bus electrification programme which will electrify 15 existing and 150 feeder buses for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 project. Prasarana also has plans to buy 100 new e-buses in 2024 and a further 1,166 new e-buses between 2025 and 2030.
