Prapat Chongsanguan was appointed as the new governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) in November 2012. His selection has been endorsed by the SRT board. Chongsanguan, who is a former governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority that supervisesBangkok’s subway, has plans to usher in a new era for the SRT.

Interestingly, before taking over the SRT governorship officially, Chongsanguan tried out SRT services in many areas to get a sense of the challenges facing him. He is reported to have found a number of problems, including bad service and poor conditions of railway tracks, trains, and train stations and is determined to solve these during his term. His immediate attention would be required in completing pending extension projects. He has also served as vice minister of transport, reporting directly to the President.
