The Philippine National Railways (PNR) plans to resume operations in Metro Manila between late 2028 and early 2029, after a suspension due to the construction of the elevated North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR). PNR operations manager Joseline Geronimo confirmed that once clearing work is completed, services could resume in the capital region within the next three to four years. The NSCR will link Tutuban to Calamba and Malolos to Clark, with the elevated rail project progressing steadily.

Meanwhile, PNR resumed services on its Calamba–Lucena route on July 14. According to Geronimo, the Inka train sets procured from Indonesia in 2019 have been deployed, with the first Lucena-bound train departing at 5 a.m. The resumption aligns with efforts to expand regional rail services while urban routes remain under construction.
