Plus Malaysia Bhd (Plus) will trial the use of EMV payments at the Penang Bridge and Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) starting September 2023. The open loop system will allow commuters to use their bank cards (debit and credit cards) to pay toll charges at the RFID lanes, in addition to the Touch n’ Go (TnG) e-wallet.

Plus will work together with the Malaysia Highway Authority (LLM) to deploy the system along the expressway. The Sungai Besi Expressway, the Ampang – Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, the New Pantai Expressway, the Guthrie Corridor Expressway and the Penang Bridge will also begin enforcing an open payment system by September 2023.

This move is a part of ongoing efforts to deploy open-loop systems across Malaysia, in an attempt to provide more payment options in addition to the TnG.
