According to reports, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) is in talks with potential foreign partners to put forth a joint bid for a licence in Myanmar. The tender for two new telecom operators in Myanmar was announced in January 2013. However, the qualifier that the bidding companies should operate outside their respective countries had held back PLDT, as it does not have operations outside the Philippines (apart from virtual network operations). Hence, to qualify for the bid, the company is seeking to forge partnerships with other telecom companies. A large number of global operators are believed to have submitted expressions of interest to operate in the country.
