The Government of the Philippines has proposed a nationwide initiative to integrate green spaces and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure across the Philippines, highlighting their importance for sustainability, public health, and economic resilience. Drawing inspiration from projects like the Boracay Circumferential Road and Tondaligan Beach Walkway, Villar aims to replicate such developments to create safer, greener, and more accessible public spaces nationwide.

The Government of the Philippines emphasised the need to incorporate parks, urban forests, and pedestrian pathways into national infrastructure plans to reduce urban congestion, lower carbon emissions, and promote healthier lifestyles. He urged local governments, private stakeholders, and environmental groups to collaborate on eco-friendly urban projects focused on walkability and environmental conservation. His advocacy aligns with global trends in urban planning that prioritize sustainability alongside economic growth.

As a former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary, Villar has a track record of integrating environmental considerations into infrastructure projects. He also expressed support for legislation promoting urban greening, reforestation, and pedestrian-friendly city planning, positioning these initiatives as crucial for building a sustainable and inclusive future in the face of climate change and urbanization challenges.
