The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has allocated PhP 578 million for various potable water supply projects under the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig (SalinTubig) Programme for 2014. The programme provides potable water to poor communities with no/limited access to safe drinking water. It is a part of the government’s effort to achieve the 7C target of the seventh goal under the Millennium Development Goals, which aims to halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015. In 2013, DLIG allocated PhP 659 million for water projects that benefited a total of 64 municipalities. The allocation stood at PhP 770 million in 2012, when water supply projects in 80 municipalities were initiated. For 2014, DLIG has identified a total of 54 municipalities as targeted beneficiaries of SalinTubig.
