The Philippines has called for faster implementation of the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan 2026–2035, with the government highlighting the need to use regional connectivity projects to support jobs, investment and sustainable economic growth. Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said the country’s ASEAN chairship priority on “Prosperity Corridors” seeks to integrate transport infrastructure with industry, energy, logistics, digital systems, skills and investment.
Balisacan identified four priorities: treating connectivity as an integrated economic system; prioritising projects that strengthen competitiveness and resilience; developing a pipeline of investment-ready projects; and assessing projects based on their impact on livelihoods. He also called for stronger institutional governance, sustained financing, thorough project preparation and closer cooperation among ASEAN member states, the private sector, development partners and local communities.
