The Government of Philippines has earmarked an estimated PHP318.6 billion to invest in green projects between 2021 and 2022. The investment plan is in line with its commitment under the 2015 Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 75 per cent by 2030.

The Public Utility Vehicle Modernisation programme, which has a budget of PHP591.8 million for 2021 and an expected budget of PHP824.4 million for 2022, is one of the green infrastructure development projects to be funded under this initiative. Another is the expansion of wastewater treatment facilities, which has been allocated PHP1.5 billion under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA), as well as the Department of Energy’s continuous work to examine and produce benchmark indicators for energy efficiency. This initiative, which has a budget of PHP45 million for 2021, will allow the Philippines to accurately measure the environmental effects of other development projects.
