The Senate of Philippines has passed a Senate Bill No. 1382, also known as the Electric Vehicles (EV) and Charging Stations Act. The bill was initially filed in the sensate during March 2020 and aims to encourage the use of EV and decrease fossil fuel dependency. It was approved unanimously in its third reading.
The bill establishes a Comprehensive Roadmap on Electric Vehicles (CREV) and guidelines for the production, import, use, and regulation of EVs and hybrids, as well as parts, components, and batteries in the Philippines. It also includes the installation of recharge stations throughout the country. If passed, the law will mandate that EVs make up 5 per cent of government and business fleets within a specified time frame set by the CREV. The measure will also require the construction of specialised EV parking spaces in new buildings and businesses.
After passing in the senate, the Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations Act will be sent to the House of Representatives for approval before being sent to the President for signature.
