The Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DoTr) has announced plans to deploy 50 buses in addition to its existing fleet of 450 buses on the Epifanio de los Santos (EDSA) busway. This move is expected to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours in Metro Manila.
The innermost lane of the EDSA busway is an exclusive lane for buses travelling along the 23.8 km national highway. It complements the operations of Metro Railway Transit Line 3.
Further, DOTr has allocated PHP212 million under the expenditure plan for 2023 for the modernisation of the EDSA busway. This includes deployment of traffic signals, security services, and busway station timers.
