The Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DOTr) has allocated around PHP1.75 billion to upgrade four regional airports, covering construction works in Camiguin, Tacloban, and Virac, and consultancy services for a new airport in Dumaguete.

The largest construction package, worth PHP455.9 million, covers landside and airside improvements at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport, including access and perimeter roads, shore protection, and site development for runway extension, with a 600-day completion period. DOTr has also earmarked PHP264.6 million to redevelop Virac Airport, adding a new control tower, powerhouse, runway extension, and perimeter fencing over 720 days. In Camiguin, PHP174.6 million will fund runway slope correction, asphalt overlay, and strip adjustments at Camiguin Airport, targeted for completion within 180 days.

Separately, DOTr is rebidding consultancy services worth about PHP858.7 million for the New Dumaguete Development Airport, covering design, tender assistance, and construction supervision under a 78-month contract. The new airport, backed by South Korean ODA financing, is designed for 2.5 million passengers annually, significantly above the current capacity of Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport.
