The Department of Transportation (DOTr) of the Philippines is exploring the feasibility of combining the privatisation of both the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) into a single package. The agency has until July 2024 to pass a decision. Following that, the DOTr will present its proposal to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for assessment and approval.

After the build-lease-transfer (BLT) contract for MRT-3 expires in 2025, the Metro Rail Transit Corporation (MRTC) will transfer ownership of MRT-3 to the government.
