The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has released the terms of reference for the second round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA2), with the agency planning to award the new contracts by the end of June 2023. The new round of the GEA will auction 11,600 MW of total renewable energy (RE) capacity of which 7,715 MW is for the Luzon grid, 2,695 MW will be supplied to Visayas, and 1,190 MW is earmarked for the Mindanao grid.

Out of the total capacity, 3,600 MW will be added during 2024 and 3,600 MW in 2025. Installation targets for these years include ground-mounted and roof-mounted solar, onshore wind and biomass. During 2026, around 4,400 MW will be added in terms of floating solar and waste-to-energy (WtE) capacities.

The supply contract will be for a 20-year period.
