The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced plans to add 1,982 MW of renewable energy (RE) capacity by 2025 in the Visayas region in the Philippines. For this, around 25 projects are currently in the pipeline, which includes a mix of solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Solar energy will comprise nearly 39 per cent of the future capacity. Wind energy and BESS projects follow with 26.01 per cent and 15.64 per cent, respectively. Notable developments include Solar Philippines Visayas Corporation’s 300 MW solar facility and Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) geothermal and BESS projects. The region also has 55 more RE projects in planning, potentially adding 16,466 MW of capacity.
