The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has approved system impact studies (SIS) for 11 energy projects, primarily focused on renewable energy. These projects will undergo evaluation to assess their feasibility for integration into the national grid and determine necessary upgrades in transmission infrastructure. The projects include three pumped-storage hydropower facilities, one hydropower plant, five wind farms, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and a coal power plant.
The largest approved project is the 2,000 MW Maton pumped-storage hydroelectric plant in Apayao, followed by the San Roque Lower East and West facilities in Benguet, each with a capacity of 800 MW. Approved wind projects include the 200 MW Real offshore wind farm, 100 MW Silang Maragondon wind farm, and 40 MW Pandan Labayat wind farm in Quezon, along with the 304 MW Gemini wind power project in Samar and the 200 MW Misor wind project in Misamis Oriental. The DOE also opened bidding for its third Green Energy Auction (GEA-3), attracting 7,530 MW in renewable energy proposals, exceeding the planned 4,560 MW.
