The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) has announced plans to conduct the fourth Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) in Q4 2024, focusing on integrated renewable energy (RE) and energy storage systems. The auction will include technologies such as batteries, flywheels, and pumped storage hydropower systems, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) technologies to support the expected increase in RE.

The DOE will provide an indicative timeline for the GEA-4 activities by issuing a Notice of Auction in the coming months. This auction follows the first two GEA rounds in the past two years, which awarded a total of 5,306 MW of renewable capacities expected to come online between 2024 and 2026. The third round, GEA-3, is set to award more capacities in Q3 2024, targeting non-FIT (Feed-in Tariff) eligible RE facilities, including geothermal, impounding and pumped-storage hydropower, and run-of-river hydro systems.
