Power electricity supplier Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has put into operation a 115/34.5 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation in Quezon City in the Philippines to meet the rising power demand of residential and commercial sites in the area. The new substation will provide additional capacity to serve the growing power requirements in the areas of Balintawak, Diliman and San Francisco Del Monte in Quezon City. The facility is ready to deploy the latest proven technologies that can incorporate smart grid applications such as distribution automation equipment and digital protective devices.  In 2017, Meralco plans to spend PhP 443 million for a 115 kV/34.5 kV GIS facility in Makati City and PhP 476 million for a similar facility in San Mateo, Rizal.
