The Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DoTr) and stakeholders from across the Philippines have emphasised the need for communities to participate in designing public transport systems and urban spaces to improve road safety and accessibility.
The initiative includes the development of inclusive street design, climate-resilient infrastructure, and improvements to public transport connectivity, ensuring complementary services across all modes of transport. The government also plans to strengthen institutional governance, promote transparency in the use of public funds, and embed social protections in transportation policies.
Stakeholders highlighted the significance of a co-development framework, allowing people to be actively involved in shaping the government’s transportation and mobility plans. The summit’s outcome is seen as a step toward more accountable and people-centred urban mobility in the Philippines.
