The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Philippines’ premier socio-economic planning body, has granted approval to eight infrastructure projects worth PhP 547.6 billion. The projects include the PhP 57.07 billion MRT-4 project. It aims to reduce the travel time between Metro Manila and Rizal province by constructing a 15.56 km elevated monorail transit system. The NEDA board approved the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue [EDSA] Greenway project. The project aims to enhance pedestrian facilities at key rail stations along EDSA and entails an investment of PhP 8.51 billion. Both the MRT-4 and EDSA Greenway projects will be financed by the Asian Development Bank. The board also confirmed approval for six other projects – the Bataan-Cavite interlink bridge, Cebu-Mactan bridge, coastal road construction project, Davao City coastal bypass, Capas-Botolan road, Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island bridges – and a maritime safety enhancement programme.
