Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC) expects to complete Phase I of its PhP 13 billion 210 MW coal-fired power plant in Maasim, Sarangani, by September 2015. Phase I of the plant will have a capacity of 105 MW. SEC and its contractor, South Korean Daelim Industrial, are currently preparing the power block area, which will contain the plant’s steam core components – the circulating fluidised bed boiler to generate steam from coal, and the steam-driven turbine generator to produce electricity. The full Phase I capacity has already been contracted to several cooperatives, including the South Cotabato 2 Electric Cooperative, the Agusan Del Norte Electric Cooperative, the Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative (Aselco), and the Davao Del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. The second phase – another 105 MW – is expected to commence operations by 2016.
